GENERAL INFORMATION
     The Supreme Council for Science and Technological Development of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) approved in 2008 the creation of the Center of General and Molecular Biology within the Institute of Zoology.
     Later, in 2011, the Laboratory of Systematic and Molecular Phylogeny was established as a structural unit of the Center of General and Molecular Biology.
The main research directions of the Laboratory are the following:

  • Genetics and molecular biology of the animal world, and
  • Developing a new taxonomic system for different groups of invertebrate animals (nematodes and hematophagous arthropods) based on complementarity of genetic-molecular criteria with morphofunctional characters.
OBJECTIVES:
  • Performing nucleotide sequencing of DNA nucleotide heritance;
  • Comparative research of classification systems based on the complementarity of classical and molecular-biological methods; 
  • Highlighting and identifying biological and ecological particularities of Cđżleoptera Curculionidae, as well as its role as a component of biodiversity; 
  • Fauna inventory and identification of invasive species of invertebrate animals in the Republic of Moldova; 
  • Developing the biological methods of control of ixodide ticks - vectors of emerging infections; 
  • Studying the infection development related to Laim disease; 
  • Storing the results in International Genes Banks; 
  • Mathematical modeling and simulation of invasive processes; 
  • Studying the transmissible pathogens diversity in ticks collected from migratory birds; 
  • In vivo study of the parasite system "Borrelia burgdorferi - grated" using the confocal microscopy.

Besides classical research methods, there are used molecular-biological methods (DNA-Barcoding); nucleic acids extraction; DNA amplification; sequencing of PCR products; isolating of DNA/RNA; PCR, q PCR, RT-PCR, immune histology and confocal microscopy.
